Budapest city walks
Buda - Castle
Budapest is the capital city of Hungary with a population of 2.5 million. It is a city of many faces and is called the Pearl of the Danube thanks to its graceful charm. The name Budapest originated from the merger of two towns, the hilly Buda on the right bank of the Danube, and the flat Pest on the left bank. Today, it features numerous historical sights, museums, restaurants and cafés. And we shouldn’t miss visiting its illustrious baths, a reminder of the long period of Turkish domination!
We are in the city part called Buda, which was the capital of Hungary from 1361. It was merged with Pest only in 1873. This castle hill is considered the most picturesque and peaceful part of the city. It is 1.5 km long and 500 metres wide. The foundation walls of nearly all the houses come from the medieval times and many of the buildings are protected historic monuments.
