This square was originally called „Upper Market“ and is one of the oldest parts of Brno, the second largest city of the Czech Republic and administrative centre of South Moravia. Middle-class houses with medieval labyrinth of cellars are surrounding the square and many others interesting objects with historical importance are located nearby. The dominant feature of the market is the Parnas Fountain from the end of 17. century, which symbolizes a cave where a hero of the Greek myths, Hercules, ties up a defeated dog – Cerberus.
